Kevin “Purge” Godec is an American commentator, content creator, and former professional Dota 2 player. Ever since starting his YouTube channel and website PurgeGamers in 2011, he has been a popular figure in the DotA community.

Born in the United States, Godec has been a gaming enthusiast since a young age. His alias “Purge” comes from when he called himself “Purge058” on Xbox Live. Halo 2 had just been released, with the numbers corresponding to a spartan from the Halo book series. [1] Godec found an interest in DotA after playing Warcraft III custom maps and stumbling upon the game. Before becoming a content creator, Godec graduated from University in 2009 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics. [2]

Shortly after being la >[3] He was inspired by YouTuber HuskyStarcraft, a popular StarCraft II caster at the time. He named his own YouTube channel “PurgeGamers” and began making DotA tutorials, while also casting competitive matches for small tournaments such as DotaCash before Valve’s Dota 2 beta was announced. With the budding popularity of Dota 2 on the rise, Godec consistently continued to produce content for his Youtube channel and website, gaining popularity over time. He also took on other roles such as interviewing, playing on a competitive team, and analyzing Dota 2 games in prestige tournaments such as The International and Dota Major Championships. Godec has successfully maintained his popularity, and is currently one of the most well-known figures in the Dota 2 community.

After shifting to Dota 2, Godec continued to cast small tournaments and pub matches. In August 2012, he was invited by Valve to do post-game interviews at The International 2012. [4] Finding recent success as an interviewer and returning from a short period of playing on a professional team, he was hired by Valve to be the voice of the The Newcomer Stream for The International 2014, a stream designed to educate new players unfamiliar with Dota 2. In 2015, Godec was again invited to The International, as well as the Frankfurt Major. During The International 2016 he was part of the English talent where he provided weatherman-style analysis segments, in which he presented game scenes with the help of an interactive digital screen. This would gain high popularity among the community.
In 2017 he launched a popular Twitch and YouTube series Day[9] Learns Dota in collaboration with Day[9]. [5]

As a player [ edit ]

In January 2014 Godec joined up with SexyBamboe, Eosin, Corey, and Blitz to form team Zephyr and competed in the emerging South Korean Dota 2 tournament scene. The team found immediate success, winning the Nexon Sponsorship League Season 3 in the first season of Korean Dota League. In August 2014 he transitioned to a new role as manager and focused on content creation for his YouTube channel once again. [6] He also played for the casual team Vegetables Esports Club, where he competed in Major open qualifiers together with other casters and Dota 2 personalities until mid 2016.

this is very unfair report system, i even played well compare to most support and offlane with my QW build.

So many false report and the system allows it

can i recommend practicing invoker in a custom lobby, then when you feel comfortable practicing, then switch to unfair bots, when you can beat unfair bots with invoker, then take it to turbo.

i was practicing invoker with rankmatch AI and its perfect.

Im actually doing well in pub games but not in ranked.

SEA is a very cancerous server that they will expect more from you when you play invoker.

report system is supposed to be used against players with bad behavior not because they’re playing bad. alot of players report people when they’re angry or salty and not because they misbehave.

personally i hardly ever come across players who intentionally try to ruin the games.
my last 30 games i’ve played i had like 1 guy who sold his items and actively ruined the game so yeah it doesn’t happen to me very often.

intentional feeding and feeding are different things. alot of people who use the report system often don’t see the difference or even care. they report because they can and because they’re salty for the loss. especially young children always looking to blame someone.

i wish they improved the report algorithms and made it so false reporting would result in a ban.

I just read the new posts from reddit and it seems that ALOT got ban. They said it was because of new update or something.
Before i played there was a quick update too but did not read it.

Dota 2 is a game for survivals from toxic world.

Mechnically? Hell no. Starcraft 1 > Warcraft 3 > Starcraft 2 > Dota 1 > Dota 2.

Other games requiere the same amount of “big brain time”, just with different aspects. Football isn’t more skill based than basketball. You need different skills, but the overall requirment to perform at the toplvl is just equally high aka can’t be compared.

Almost everyone ran CC script that detected anyone using scripts at high levels because we didn’t have time to waste on retards. As a player who hit A – semi pro and also had an EAPM of 189 Average and played against Pros that’s extremely false. I played like 150 games a month and would only run into 5 Scripters on average and only 1 being on iccup which would get banned shortly after due to their strict rules. #2 Saynig pros don’t micro much? once again a player that only plays vs dumpster tier players. Every game above C+ was full of casting and Micro. You fail ur goon micro vs the first Vulture rush WHICH THEY MICRO you lose. Clearly you never played BW at a high Level. “Fighting games you cant plan more then 2 or 3 moves ahead.” once again a player who didn’t play at high skill. You have to plan several moves in head from looking for the TOD combo to every block sequence if applicable to what fighters have abilities that miss simply from body design. FighterZ for example.

The video settings and launch options of Dota 2 can be optimized to increase your FPS and improve your gameplay.

On the web, you can find several configuration files to replace yours and boost the fps. Honestly, I don’t like this approach because I want to know exactly what I am changing, so I decided to review all the options in this article.

These adjustments are useful if you are struggling to reach an acceptable amount of fps as you are using a low-spec PC, but also if you have a monitor with a high refresh-rate as you bought it to gain an edge in a competitive game such as Dota 2.

In-game settings

Launch Dota 2, click the Settings icon on the top left, and open the Video tab. I will show you how to set up each option for maximum performance.

Resolution

Use my monitor’s current resolution: off.

I suggest using the advanced settings, but in some cases this option is helpful to solve bugs.

For example, I am currently using a 34 inches ultrawide monitor: the game doesn’t offer a 21:9 aspect ratio in the advanced settings, and my display resolution isn’t listed either.

In order to play Dota 2 with my monitor, I must select “Use my monitor’s current resolution” and also indicate my exact resolution (2560×1080) in the launch options with the following command: -w 2560 – h 1080.

Note: I didn’t have this issue in the past as my monitor resolution appeared correctly under “Size”.

Use advanced settings: on.

Aspect Ratio: use your native one.

It depends on your display, but nowadays the great majority of the monitors have a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Size: use your native resolution.

Using your native resolution is desirable for a better view, but if you badly need a performance boost, decreasing the resolution will greatly improve your fps. 720p is usually a solid compromise between quality and performance.

Display Mode: Full Screen.

Full Screen is the best choice performance-wise, but you might prefer Borderless Window if you have a multi-monitor setup and you wish to move quickly on another display.

Note: you can switch from Full Screen to Borderless Window by pressing Alt+Enter on the keyboard.

Options

Rendering API: DX11.

The available options are DX9, DX11, Vulkan, and OpenGL.

DX11 provides the best performance on most modern systems, but I recommend trying also DX9 on yours as the results may be different.

Vulkan is only slightly behind DX11. I believe this API might become the superior choice in the future as Valve drastically improved it in the past years.

OpenGL is the worst option. Do not use it.

Rendering

Use basic settings: off.

This slider is the simplest solution to tune down the graphic if you don’t know what are you doing, but I prefer selecting individually each option.

ok, so what happened is that me, a party player, just needed to be re-calibrated. At first, I am quite excited. Since i dont play solo games that much(90% of the games are party), my solo was just low(700), but my party was 2100 sth(archon 0).
Ok, so i completed my ten games(7wins 3 loses) one of the loses is that my zeus mid got stolen by a lifestealer and i raged and threw. The rest of the games i stomped them all.
In the end, i was re-calibrated guardian 2! I was playing with the guardians all the time in the rank, and never climbed even if i won.
If this system is to rank players so that they receive a equal chance winning, ♥♥♥♥ YOU Gaben, you successfully ruined the games of my solo, you also successfully ruined my game, cause i won’t waste time leveling up my solo.

Why wont i play solo is that people are just too bad, either I stomp the enemy with 40 kills or frustrated by my teamates(or stolen mid). Both is not fun at all.

They seriously need to treat party players fairly, in fact, it was me who led so many friends playing this game, paying him money!

Wait, u mean u calibrate your solo first and calibrated as guardian II from 700 mmr? i think its kinda high calibrate for you as solo mmr. 700 mmr is kinda herald i guess. 7 win 3 loses probably led you get 200 or 100 mmr more than what u were before. what were u expect u get sudden 1k mmr more with only 10 games? so technically u didnt drop down ur mmr or medal u were just archon cuz of your party mmr. go re calibrate your party mmr.

beside that i agree with you with the parts of u dont want to play solo and valve doesnt treat party mmr players fairly. its ok u dont want to play solo if you have anger problems . take it this way, u have no goals to be pro player or so , so u dont have to play solo mmr , dota is just a competetive game to you waste on you free time , so spend it with your friends is a good idea. yes valve does not treat party mmr players fairly cuz community dont think as same way as we do. they see party mmr is just a waste of time and something is not important and they kinda have right to do that.

but for me i just spend my dota time with my friends in order to enjoy my free time and we’re doing kinda good as a team and i dont play solo mmr like 3 or 4 years and i have no regrets of that. but i think valve should treat party queuers as same as solo queuers. both mmr shows skills.

now i know some people going to grief like ” i dont want someone whos carried by their friends to get divine just by their parties etc. ” well go try to play 5k avg of party mmr games against some pro players and beat them then talk to me.

@mystic. LoDE^ just keep play with your friends as i see u stomp your solo games that would enough to show other players that u deserve more than what ur current solo , u dont have to improve it if you dont enjoy ur solo games. its ok.

The whole point of Manta is to dodge projectiles and remove debuffs aswell as having Black King Bar. As you say, illusions will do low damage if you don’t build stats but your crit and evasion affect manta illusions that’s why its so IMBA.

EDIT: Coupled with Basher and you have 2 illusions critting along with you, the enemy becomes butter.

Yeah of course getting Manta Style on PA is undeniably a huge boost on her survivability if there is no AoE burst/cleave in enemy team, and this build will alter PA’s 1 blink 1 kill into I will withstand all your nukes and debuff and see who last longer. Yes it’s viable but it will reduce PA’s damage potential quite a lot. If it can win it doesn’t really matters, sometimes you can even build dagon on PA just for trolling. Crits can’t finish off your target? Burst them with dagon!

And I have a doubt, you sa > Blur early on can help them survives on the lane and now you asked them to go aggressive on level 1?

The higher the skill bracket, the more situational items become, I agree with you there, but how I have built PA is not just about making the numbers giant, it’s about surviving more. Illusions cause a lot of disorientation, and it once nullified an Omnislash whether it was a bug or MLG swag timing. Illusion strats are viable when pushing towers since they also have a 50% evasion. Let’s just agree to disagree on Manta Style and I will update the guide on the UAM.

Still I don’t think getting Manta Style is a good choice as a core because you are spending 5050 golds for a purge and your illusions do little damage because low agi = low attack speed and low damage and thus they do no impacts. Then, because you spent 5050 golds on a item that only gives you 26 agi and your crits will do little damage, it’s very situational.

Starting with Orb of Venom is not a really good choice since it cost 275 golds! You could have get a Stout Shield or Quelling Blade , and you can always get it from s > Orb of Venom as starting item is very situational, and it means that you are going to be very aggressive since level 1.

Any kind of lifesteal will always stack with Orb of Venom / Eye of Skadi , and Desolator doesn’t stack with lifesteal UAM, you need to update it.

First off, I would like to say it was a bit presumptuous to say “follow my guide and no one else’s” since even though I’ve been playing for a year and I’ve become fairly good at the game, it doesn’t mean I know everything. To MrLocket, seeing as PA is your profile picture, I don’t think there’s a single different item build in the world opposed to yours that you would trust, just like there’s no opinion that could sway me from saying that my dear Vengeful Spirit can’t carry, and even though in this gu > Blur I normally do go 4-1-1 because I have become competent with the dear Phantom. I try to write my gu > Manta Style goes, I’ve left an opportunity in the skill build to start stacking stats, but for the most part I use my illusions to split push as much as I can, and as I mentioned to purge debuffs which might occur. As far as Orb of Venom goes, I’ve never seen exactly how well the slow works, since the contracts make everyone extremely cautious and apprehensive, so I don’t get a very fun lane harass, but cons > Ogre Magi and a Skywrath Mage have slows, it could be quite useful, but poison ticks do help me last hit if I want a wave to be just a little bit more fragile.

FleetAU I’m guessing you’re a Phase Boots fangirl. :p +24 damage against extra DPS and tankability, I will always choose DPS unless I’m Windranger but I would like to see your guide to PA and perhaps you will enlighten me. :p
